A LITTLE BIT ABOUT RACHEL WILLIAMS

Rachel's passion for the media industry first began at a very young age from presenting mini documentaries for home videos. She went on to take GSCE and A level Media Studies at her school, where she won the Media Studies Award at both levels, as well ask being the editor for her sixth form magazine.

Rachel wanted to study at the University of Salford after she attended a 'School of News' summer school at the university. She received an unconditional offer from Salford and started to study there in September 2014.  Rachel carried out her childhood dream being in front of camera throughout her university career – from presenting Salford University’s online news channel, Quays News, to hosting her peers' assessed television show, she has learnt to love the pressure the role entails. Not only does Rachel present in front of camera, but she likes to get behind the microphone, presenting a weekly news show on Shock Radio. She is proud to be Shock Radio's Station former Secretary and dedicated 10-15 hours of her time a week to the role. From Manchester Science Festival to litter picking, Rachel has met and interviewed many different people and communities for radio and TV news packages as well online articles. Alongside presenting, she also enjoyed producing Quays News and even cofounded Salford University’s affairs chat show Friday First.

Alongside juggling part-time work as a receptionist and bartender, the 21-year-old now works as a freelance journalist based in Yorkshire working as a reporter for Global's newsroom and on the phones for BBC Radio Two.

Rachel has also previously worked with ITV, BBC and Global, gaining experience on the BBC’s Songs of Praise, BBC School Reports, Global radio newsroom, ITV Tonight and The Asian Media Awards.
