I attended the Studio Radio Association Awards at London's O2 alongside Shock's Station Manager, Sam Morris and the station's only nominee Jake Common. Jake was put forward in the best specialist programme category for his show, Eurovision Domination.
And of course, Sam and I fancied a trip down to London to support Jake. Well, any excuse to wear a sparkly dress and heels does it for me... but to be there to support such a talented and lovely guy like Jake made it more worthwhile!
The evening was hosted by the incredible Greg James from Radio 1 and Will Manning from Capital. Different industry guests handed out the 12 awards including Radio 2's Tim Johns, who is my biggest inspirations when it comes to producing and package making.
Unfortunately our Eurovision King didn't win but we still had an amazing time in our glad rags and met all kinds of radio heads.
On the upside, Shock's Head of Broadcasting, Benedict Jones, got selected to be on Folded Wing's SRA Selector. He now has to compete in presenting a new music show against 5 other students. With the winner getting a trip to Mexico. Good luck, Ben!
At the Awards, there were loads of other larger stations there, some nominated at least once in each category. University of Nottingham, we're looking at you. Comparing this to the three of us representing Shock, we felt very tiny.
We were bunched on a table with two other universities; from from London and the other from South Wales. So it was great chance to mingle. And who doesn't love a good mingle, right?
It was expensive for what it was so we wanted to make the most of. Disappointingly, the food was a complete let down. The small portions sizes, lack of course and the fact it was cold didn't really live up to the £70 price tag that the dinner tickets were sold were.
After the winners were announced, it was time to start the after party. At the point in the evening the free wine had been very much consumed, which let to drunken conversations with Newsbeat new reporters and Scott Mills and Will Manning.
The total costs including the tickets, accommodation and travel was did take a wedge out of bank account but it was so so worth it.
Hopefully I'll go back next year but this time nominating my own work for an SRA. Watch this space.
Whilst I was in London, I also took the opportunity to go to Radio 2 for the day and sit in on the Jeremy Vine Show.
